Zieg Feld (ジーク・フェルド, Jīku Ferudo) is the father of the protagonist of The Legend of Dragoon, Dart Feld. He is Rose's long lost lover from the times of the Dragon Campaign 11,000 years before the events of the game.

Character Design[]

Zieg has spiky, blonde hair with fringes on each side and at the back of his hair it has disheveled spikes downward, and brown eyes. He is noted to look remarkably similar to Dart by Rose and also by Belzac, who initially mistakes Dart for Zieg.

In his primary appearance without his Dragoon form, he wears a red-orange long sleeved armor with matching gauntlets and a black long sleeved turtleneck, black pants and a matching red-orange thigh-high armor boots.

When he flees Neet with his wife Claire and his son Dart, Zieg wears an outfit typical for residents of Mille Seseau; a dark red winter collared jacket with white feathered sleeves and collar and brown belt at left side. Underneath is a white v-neck tunic, brown pants and white knee-high boots with three gray straps.

In his Dragoon form, he wears a light red Dragoon armor with a green gem in the center and a matching greaves, blue green pants and a knee-high light red Dragoon armor boots with a green gem in the center. He also wears a matching gauntlets and a light red dragon headband on his forehead. His Dragoon wings appear as pale green and light red with blue green outlines.

Story[]

The Dragon Campaign[]

Zieg Feld was the original bearer of the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit during the Dragon Campaign. In the final battle of the campaign in Kadessa, he goes head-to-head in a duel against Melbu Frahma, the Wingly dictator, who was in possession of the Dragon Buster. Zieg and Melbu Frahma get into a fight, as Melbu Frahma attacks him with a magic spell. Zieg dodges the attack, closes in and thrusts his sword through Melbu's Frahma's body. The Wingly, however, casts a petrification spell on Zieg, and the two go down together. Zieg is petrified in an "eternal curse" by Melbu Frahma that turns him into stone for ages. Rose has to watch her lover getting petrified and is unable to save and hold on to him.

Upon visiting Fort Magrad in the game, it is revealed Rose and Zieg intended to get married after the war.

After over 11,000 years, the petrification spell of Melbu Frahma eventually wears off, and Zieg Feld is freed again in an apparently peaceful world, where humans reign instead of Winglies. He meets his wife Claire, settles down in the town of Neet in Mille Seseau and has a son, Dart, all while still having the Dragoon Spirit of the Red-Eye Dragon in his possession. His life takes another tragic turn, as 18 years before the events of the game, the Black Monster attacks Neet on its quest to kill the Moon Child. Despite managing to escape alongside his wife and son, he decides to return to the village to help other villagers.

At this moment, Zieg uses his Dragoon Spirit, possibly with the intention of fighting the Black Monster, and by doing so, he unintentionally sets the spirit of Melbu Frahma free, who, upon being slayed by Zieg in the duel 11,000 years ago, sealed his spirit inside Zieg's Dragoon Spirit. Now fully possessed by Melbu Frahma, Zieg leaves the village and sets out to realize Melbu Frahma's grand plan to give birth to the 108th species planned by the creator Soa, the God of Destruction.

His wife, Claire Feld, followed him into the village to help other villagers as well. Her fate is never fully resolved.

The reborn Emperor Diaz[]

Posing as a reborn Emperor Diaz and hiding behind a mask, Zieg gives Emperor Doel of Imperial Sandora in the South of Serdio the powers of Dragoons and a Dragon, leading to the re-ignition of the 20-year long Serdian War. He manipulates the Wingly Lloyd in believing that the birth of the 108th species leads to an utopia and brings bliss to the world, and makes him collect the Divine Moon Objects in the countries of Serdio, Tiberoa and Mille Seseau with the intention of using them to destroy the Signet Spheres keeping the body and the soul of the God of Destruction apart.

He reveals himself as the mastermind behind everything at the end of chapter 3, and unmasks himself, to the shock of Rose of Dart, and sheds light on the identities of the Black Monster and the Moon Child.

Quest to destroy the world[]

Having abducted the Moon Child, Shana, Melbu Frahma in the body of Zieg sets off to realize his grand plan. Despite Dart and his group chasing him, he manages to destroy the Signet Spheres in the Magical City Aglis, the Law City Zenebatos and the Death City Mayfil, making the Moon That Never Sets, which is the body of the God of Destruction, fall onto the Endiness continent. Upon uniting Shana, who is the vessel for the soul of the God of Destruction, with the core of the Moon, he reaches his goal of giving birth to the 108th species. In Zieg's body, he then faces off in a battle against Dart and his group, is subsequently defeated, and eventually leaves Zieg's body.

Ending[]

In the end, Zieg, who turned back to his old self, and Rose decide to go with each other to destroy Melbu Frahma once and for all. Rose gives him the Dragon Buster and they fly each other towards Frahma in the body of the God of Destruction. They charge towards his core, causing a huge explosion, destroying the God of Destruction for good and giving the other dragoons a chance to escape.

As they leave, Rose thanks Dart for meeting with him, for none of this would have ever happened. Zieg and Rose fade out together into the white light and a huge explosion obliterates the Moon and everything surrounding it. Upon seeing this, Dart calls out to his father and Rose one last time.

After the ending cutscene and credits, his dragoon spirit along with Rose's are lying on the ground.

In the ending cutscene, several scenes from all of Endiness are seen, with a white bird with dark purple feathers being present in all of them. At the end, the bird sits down next to another white bird with red feathers on a dead branch of the Divine Tree, where the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit and the Dark Dragoon Spirit are laying on the ground. The scene suggests that Rose and Zieg, represented by the birds with the colors of their elements, are now happily united with each other.

Battle in the Moon That Never Sets[]

In the battle, Zieg's skills and magic are equivalent to what Dart uses in his Red-Eye Dragoon form. He uses the Dragoon Addition, and the same Dragoon Magic. His animations, however, slightly differ from Dart, unlike the animations of the four Dragoon Spirits encountered in the towers of Vellweb, which are identical to their present-day counterparts.

When using the Armor of the Red-Eye Dragoon, which can be purchased in Zenebatos, Dart has a significantly easier fight, as he is immune to any magic Zieg will cast and can only be hurt by the Dragoon Addition. For other group members, it is advisable to use the Red-Eye Stone, obtained by defeating Firebird on Disc 1, which halves fire elemental damage.
