The battle with Lloyd at the Hero Competition.

Lloyd makes his first appearance in the Hero Competition in Lohan. Dart can't wait to fight his old friend Haschel in the Finals, but Haschel is beaten by a mysterious silver-haired stranger. None of Dart's attacks can come close to Lloyd, and the stranger's attacks and unforseeable moves make quick work of Dart. Afterwards, Dart compliments his opponent; Lloyd similarly wishes Dart well, but in a distant, cryptic way, telling Dart that soon he will be stronger, but also that he will need to be. Lavitz says he would like to fight Lloyd sometime, but Lloyd says he's too good for Lavitz, which the latter admits as well.

In the fight, Lloyd uses three attacks:

  • Main attack: Lloyd slashes Dart with his sword.
  • Phantom Charge: Lloyd hits Dart six times inhumanly fast with his sword.
  • Final Strike: Lloyd hits Dart three times across his chest in a final Phantom Slash.

The Man in Hood revealing his identity to be Lloyd.

The group takes off from Lohan once they hear King Albert has been taken to Hellena Prison. The group enters and fights Fruegel. However, the Man in Hood seizes the opportunity to steal the Moon Gem from the body of Albert. Lavitz, to immediatey aid of his king, transforms into a Dragoon and attacks the Man in Hood, who takes out a legendary ancient sword, known as the Dragon Buster. Lavitz charges, but the Man in Hood pierces Lavitz's dragoon armor through the chest fatally wounding him. Afterwards, the man reveals his identity to be Lloyd and immediately takes off in the direction of Kazas. Dart and Lavitz share their last moments together as Lavitz dies.

In the Black Castle, Lloyd warns Emperor Doel to "not get caught in a red fire", presumably referring to Dart, and setting off towards Tiberoa to continue his quest to gather the Divine Moon Objects.

Chapter 2: Platinum Shadow

In the initial scene of Disc 2, Lloyd appears at the entrance to the city of Fletz; time mysteriously halts. He then disappears, as time progresses again and Dart and his group arrive at the city.

In Donau, he coincidentally is at the spot when Wink, the Third Sacred Sister of Mille Seseau, is attacked by Bandits of the Gehrich Gang. Lloyd saves Wink from the Bandits, but leaves shortly afterwards.

Lloyd only makes one more appearance in chapter 2, waiting for the Dragoons on Prison Island and receiving the Moon Dagger from Wingly Lenus, who has an open romantic interest towards him. He taunts the group and escapes with both Moon Objects, as Lenus challenges the group to the final battle of the chapter.

Chapter 3: Fate and Soul

Fighting the Divine Dragon

Lloyd's plans face an unplanned obstacle, as the Divine Dragon awakens and breaks free from his millenials-old seal from the ancient days. He sets off to fight the Divine Dragon himself with the power of the Dragon Buster and unintentionally allies himself with Dart and his group, who retrieved the Dragon Block Staff from the Forbidden Land. As Dart and his group overcome and weaken the Divine Dragon, Lloyd returns and delivers the finishing blow to the Divine Dragon, whose soul is subsequently manifesting into a Dragoon Spirit. Lloyd obtains it, but is not recognized by the Divine Dragoon Spirit.

"This is the soul of the Divine Dragon. The flame of a soul that sparkles only at the last moment of a dragon's life...its crystal is the Dragoon Spirit! As I expected, it doesn't sparkle in my hands."

Stealing the Moon Mirror

Upon returning from the Mountain of the Mortal Dragon, Lloyd saves Wink one more time from being killed by a vengeful Younger Bardel, who set out to kill Humans in revenge for killing his young sister who left the Forest of Winglies. He makes quick work of Bardel, who however self-destructs in a last attempt to take Lloyd with him, injuring him. Wink takes Lloyd to the Crystal Palace and Queen Theresa, not realizing Lloyd is using her thrust to abduct Queen Theresa, who is the key to retrieving the Moon Mirror from the Tower of Flanvel in the Kashua Glacier.

Battle in the Tower of Flanvel

Dart and his group give chase to Lloyd and finally corner him on top of the Tower of Flanvel, where he is encountered in a boss fight.

Besides his master swordsmanship and magical arsenal, Lloyd possesses a some signature magical attacks that are unique to him. He uses the following attacks:

  • Multi-Strike: Lloyd hits a party member five times.
  • Dragon Impale: Lloyd uses the Dragon Buster to remove a Dragoon from combat, instantly killing them.
  • Wingly Magic: Lloyd draws a rune in the air and performs one of several elemental magic attacks.
  • Wingly Purification: Lloyd creates a platform with a large black dome that traps the party as Lloyd explodes with golden energy.
  • Energy Barrage: Lloyd creates a gigantic spherical barrier and fills it with energy and hurls it at a party member.

Lloyd is able to deal an Instant Death attack to Dragoon forms which he will do with priority, should a character transform themselves into a Dragoon. However, this can be used to the player's advantage by equipping the Dragoon with a Talisman, which is found in the Valley of Corrupted Gravity and in the mini-game chest in the Phantom Ship. Using the Talisman will cause to attack to have no effect and also protects other group members, as Lloyd focuses on attacking Dragoons first.

Going to Vellweb

After Lloyd is defeated, Dart readies himself to deliver the finishing blow, however Lloyd is protected at the last moment by Wink, who arrives at the scene of battle. Wink is gravely injured and brings news, that Shana has been abducted by Emperor Diaz, the man behind Lloyd's plans for an utopia. Lloyd passes the Divine Moon Objects to Dart and readies himself to be killed, Dart, however, only delivers a massive punch, saying that killing him will not bring any of his dead friends back.

Lloyd accompanies the group to Vellweb, where Diaz waits, and tells them of Diaz' plans to regenerate the world and creating an utopia by giving birth to the 108th species planned by the creator Soa. Only Rose protests this story, claiming it to be untrue. Diaz is met in Vellweb together with Shana, takes the Divine Moon Objects and momentarily releases Shana. However, upon being questioned by Rose, he reveals that the birth of the 108th species means the destruction of the entire world, as it was supposedly planned by Soa.

"Lloyd. Well done bringing me the Moon Gem, Moon Dagger and Moon Mirror. Now we can let the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, the last species we desire, the true Virage, arise. I will create the utopia you wanted, after the Virage Embryo purges the world."

-Emperor Diaz

A baffled Lloyd, realizing he had been deceived and used from the beginning, confronts Diaz, but a spell by the Emperor engulfs Lloyd in fire and sends him into the abyss. Diaz then reveals himself to be Zieg Feld, Dart's father and Rose's long lost lover from the ancient days of the Dragon Campaign.

Chapter 4: Moon and Fate

Lloyd vs Melbu Frahma

Lloyd confronting Melbu Frahma in the Moon That Never Sets.

Zieg, who over the courses of chapter 4 destroyed the three Signet Spheres to seperate the body of the God of Destruction from its soul, is eventually fought in the core of the Moon That Never Sets and defeated. Upon this, the true mastermind behind everything reveals himself: Melbu Frahma, the ancient dictator of the Winglies, seales his soul inside of Zieg's Dragoon Spirit and was set free 11,000 years after the Dragon Campaign, allowing him to execute his grand plan upon taking possession of Zieg. Melbu Frahma then switches out Shana's body with his own, bodyless spirit, to merge with the God of Destruction and becoming the god himself. Dart and his group prepare to face the God of Destruction in a last battle, but not before Lloyd arrives at the scene and confronts Melbu Frahma together with Dart. He attacks Melbu Frahma in the body of the God of Destruction and deals some minor damage to him, but is then hit by a laser beam from Melbu Frahma's hands, killing him. A dying Lloyd gives the Dragon Buster to Rose and the Divine Dragoon Spirit to Dart, who is instantly recognized by his true Dragoon Spirit, begging the Dragoons to confront the fate of Soa and stopping Melbu Frahma.

Personality

Lloyd is an ambitious, solitary and manipulative individual, ready to use all means necessary to accomplish his goals. He executes his sinister plot by acting as a double agent for the Kingdom of Basil and Imperial Sandora to re-ignite the Serdian War, in order to find an opportunity to steal the Moon Gem from Albert's body, using and sacrificing Lenus, who has an obvious romantic interest in him, for retrieving the Moon Dagger, and using Wink's trust to get close to Queen Theresa, whose cooperation is required in order to retrieve the Moon Mirror. Throughout the courses of his actions, he pays little to no regard to any harm and sadness caused by his actions, such as casualties in the Serdian War, the death of indiviuals like Lavitz or Lenus, or any other collateral damage caused by his actions.

"My will is with Emperor Diaz. Namely, everything was planned by the god. I have the calling to reform the world. I have no time to pay attention to little things, like Lavitz. I am the one who torched your home to the ground. I am the one who deprived your friend of his life. And I hold the Moon Gem and the Moon Dagger in my hands! You abhor me, don't you?"

-Lloyd

Despite his evil deeds, he does bear a noble intention at his heart, firmly believing that giving birth to the 108th species brings an utopia and eternal prosperity to the world indeed. He also showed to be able to be noble in the "small things", such as when he saved Wink twice with at least no ulterior motive at the first time, as he did not know about her connection to Queen Theresa at the time. In this regard, he can also be seen as an anti-villain, a "villain with heroic goals". With his conviction being fundamentally based upon being misguided by the false Emperor Diaz, his dramatic actions and evil deeds make Lloyd an overall tragic figure in the game.
