The enslaved suffered a terrible domination and injustice. Their anger turned to a flame of fury; then, a gust of wind blew throughout the lands, spreading the flame to a blazing fire. The wind was Emperor Diaz. Seven incarnations Dragons served the emperor. Their bravery inspired people to take up arms. Thus began the Dragon Campaign.

-Minister Noish

Emperor Diaz was the leader of the Humans during the Dragon Campaign over 11,000 years before the events of the game, proclaiming war on the Winglies and liberating Humans and other races from the oppressive rule of Melbu Frahma.

Story[]

WARNING: Section contains spoilers.

Chapter I: The Serdian War[]

Emperor Diaz is first mentioned by Minister Noish as he tells Dart about the Dragon Campaign and the Dragoons 11,000 years ago.

Later on, when the group confronts Greham in the Nest of Dragon, and as Rose presses him about how he obtained his Dragoon Spirit, Greham reveals that Emperor Doel, who supposedly incited the Serdian War, got his power and intelligence from Emperor Diaz. This leaves Rose in entire disbelief. Without any further explanation on this, the group battles and overcomes Greham and Feyrbrand.

"Is this some kind of dream? Emperor Diaz died 11,000 years ago. With the

name of the Holy Imperial Gloriano."

-Rose to Greham

Diaz is mentioned one last time in Disc 1, when Emperor Doel is confronted in his throne room in the Black Castle. As Dart asks why he ordered Shana to be taken away, he replies that it is part of "Lloyd's conspiracy" on the order of the "reborn Emperor Diaz", and that "Lloyd is a mere pawn". Again, Rose is in disbelief about this, however the evidence at this point hints at Emperor Diaz acting as a grey eminence behind a variety of villainous plots.

Chapter II: Platinum Shadow[]

Before the final battle of Disc 2 with Lenus and Regole, Emperor Diaz is mentioned again by Lloyd to be the mastermind behind his plot.

My will is with Emperor Diaz. Namely, everything was planned by the god.

-Lloyd

Chapter III: Fate and Soul[]

During Disc 3, Dart and his group eventually defeat Lloyd and obtain the Divine Moon Objects he gathered from him.

"Here they are. I just got all three Divine Moon Objects. Now the world will be reborn into the utopia that Emperor Diaz and I desire."

-Lloyd

Meanwhile, Emperor Diaz kidnaps Shana in Deningrad. To resolve the entire plot and to retrieve Shana, the group goes to Vellweb together with Lloyd to meet Emperor Diaz, or the person pretending to be him.

During an optional visit to Fort Magrad, the place from where Emperor Diaz proclaimed the start of the Dragon Campaign, Rose remembers a speech by Emperor Diaz she witnessed 11,000 years ago.

Diaz: "What we desire is freedom!! Or give us death!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God bless Diaz!! God bless Gloriano!!"
Diaz: "I am to bring light to the Humans' future! I am to pass judgment on the past of the Winglies! I am Diaz!!"
Liberation Army of Humans: "God Bless Diaz!! God Bless Gloriano!!"

Eventually, Dart, Lloyd and the group find Emperor Diaz in Vellweb, handing over the Divine Moon Objects in a preliminary exchange for Shana. Diaz then proceeds to reveal his goal, the birth of the last species, which is nothing else than the Virage Embryo or the God of Destruction, born to destroy and purge the entire world, as desired by the creator Soa.

"Lloyd. Well done bringing me the Moon Gem, Moon Dagger and Moon Mirror. Now we can let the Virage Embryo, the God of Destruction, the last species we desire, the true Virage, arise. I will create the utopia you wanted, after the Virage Embryo purges the world."

-Emperor Diaz

A baffled Lloyd, realizing he had been deceived and used from the beginning, confronts Diaz, but a spell by the Emperor engulfs Lloyd and sends him into the abyss. Diaz then reveals his identity to be Zieg Feld, Dart's father and Rose's lover from the past. He sheds light on the entire story about the 108th species, the Moon Child, supposed to destroy the world, and the Black Monster preventing this since 11,000 years by killing the Moon Child.

Finally, he reveals that Princess Louvia from Mille Seseau, who was killed by the Black Monster 18 years ago, was mistaken for the Moon Child. However, Princess Louvia had in fact a twin sister, Shana, who was the actual Moon Child and is supposed to become the vessel for the soul of the God of Destruction. Upon revealing everything, Zieg takes Shana with him and disappears, setting out to destroy the Signet Spheres created by the ancient Winglies to prevent of the birth of the God of Destruction in case the soul and body should still reach each other.

Trivia[]

  • Although Rose mentiones Diaz's death 11,000 years ago several times, it is never revealed how he died, and whether he died during the Dragon Campaign, in battle or after the Dragon Campaign.
  • Rose's flashback at Fort Magrad is the only time where the actual, historical Emperor Diaz speaks.
